Sunday Sessions - In Word & Deed

Can you believe the first quarter of the year is over? Tax day has come and gone. (well technically you have till tomorrow but you get the gist) It has taken me a bit to settle into what I want this year to look like and be about. After completing my first goal ever set in life at 33, I figured that I could do it again before I turn 35 this year :)

For the last couple of years, I've had some guiding verses that lead to themes and intentions that I use to guide my year. This year this is what jumped out at me.

"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father."

Another version of Colossians 3:16-17 reads this way..

"Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father."

A commentary on this passage gave me some challenging insight. To "do" in word or deed is to "do it" as if in the presence and power of Jesus and the glory of His Father Who art in heaven.

As if that challenge was not enough.... thankfulness... the original word used here is eucharisteo. Here's a little spiritual mind bomb for ya...

Eucharisteo describes a person who is depending on God’s grace moment by moment. The present tense pictures this as one's lifestyle, a life only possible under the control of the Spirit.

When I started blogging, I knew it would be my own piece of the internet. A place where I could create, and share my journey. It would feel a little weird, not to include the "why" behind my daily actions. That has brought me here. Sunday just felt like a natural place for me to reflect on my spiritual journey. "Sunday Sessions" will be a place where I will bring my wrestle, my fear, and my praise as an honor to the ONE who allows me to search.

At the start of the year, Rachael and I shot some content for FLORALgeek. In the middle of the shoot, we were inspired to create this to kick off my "Sunday Sessions" for the year whenever it felt right to post.  Today is that day.

Do you set intentions for your year? I would love to know what your working through in the comments so I can encourage and pray for you.
